Airplane Birthday!

Josiah was off hunting on his actual birthday (Oct 21) so we celebrated on Monday night. He had asked for an airplane cake and I snooped around on the internet and PTL found step by step instructions on how to make a cake. It was a pretty awesome looking cake and it seemed doable, so I got my cake mixes, frosting and set out to make said cake.

Well, I forgot an important step. Flouring the pan after greasing it. Yep, the cakes stuck to the pan and all my glorious ideas of an amazing cake quickly went out the window. I had 3 box cakes that looked great in the pan, but wouldn't be any good in the process of building an airplane. I needed to do something. So I looked up how to make cake balls and went for it.

I crumbled all the cakes into a big bowl, added vanilla frosting and mixed. I came up with a big ol mess, but a mess I could work with and I got to shaping. We came up with this:

Then I frosted it with chocolate and added colored frosting,

and made it look like an airplane

It looked really cool. Josiah LOVED it and I was happy. It didn't taste that good. The kids loved it, but it was a little spongy or something. What really matter though is that Josiah had a great birthday and was so excited about all the different things he got, especially his cake.

Happy Birthday to my big 4 year old!

What an awesome cake! Very impressed. I tried to make Willie a cake that looked like a fish this year, and everyone called it my poop cake. It really did look like poop. I am extra impressed with your work because of this.
