Sick, Sick, Sick

Ever since we've been back in the states we've been under the weather. I was thinking it was just an "airplane" cold and since we aren't a family known for rushing to the Dr. with every cough or fever - I wasn't too worried. Tylenol and the Internet help keep me sane :-) Then Benson broke out with a rash all around his mouth. Through looking on the Internet I was pretty sure he had "hand, foot, and mouth" disease. Nothing you can do about that one so we let it run its course...

We scurried off to hunting camp last Friday to see Joey. We found him happy, but sick with a bad sore throat and a fever. Josiah who was with Joey had a pretty bad cold as well. Fast forward to Sunday. I took Benson to urgent care because I knew his ear ache had progressed to a point where he needed some help to fight it, plus the rash around his mouth wasn't getting any better and was keeping him up at night. We were told he might have Kawasaki's disease. Not fun, real bad. After a urine sample, blood work and talking with a couple doctors we've discovered that no he does not have Kawasaki's disease (PTL) but instead has a bad infection of oral herpes . Poor kid, branded for life. Herpes doesn't ever leave. Darn genetics.

Tuesday found Joey still sick and finally willing to go see the doctor. Strep. Bad case. Then last night I came down with a bad fever, sore throat and headache. Josiah's cold went from bad to worse and as of right now four of us in the house are taking antibiotics and trying not to get anyone else sick. Bonus though, the doctor said that it is pretty rare for infants to get strep. Usually that doesn't affect them until they are 2ish. Not that it is impossible, just not common. So we're watching William closely, but praying he doesn't have to experience any of this. What can I say, we're a family who likes to do ALL things together :-)

In other news we went and saw a movie last night (right, great time to get sick) it was called "Hereafter" with Matt Damon.

A bit weird, but really well done. I am still unsure of the point. I know I really don't agree with the world view. In fact the movie left me both sad and reminded me of how great it is to have an unmovable hope. There is a lot of death and general sadness in the flick (- pretty disturbing death scenes as a heads up). I think they try and leave you with a happy ending, but as many of you know - without Christ there is no hope in death. Generally a fascinating movie, if your in the mood for a thinker and a crier.

Also in the news tonight, I accidentally washed my Mother-in-laws cast iron pan with soap tonight. Oops. Confession is good for the soul, I feel better already :-)

Dani, so sorry you all are sick. But, this way you get it over with all at once. There's a plus side to most things.
On the cast iron, not too terribly bad. Oil and oven will cure it again!
Get better dear!
